I try to embrace that simple sentiment as much as possible with sounding like some stupid inspirational poster from the 70's or 80's. There is so much to be grateful for in my life, and I hope you can discover that in your life. Seeing all the good that is present does not dismiss the difficulties, challenges or the evil that can be present as well. Our hearts-minds are big enough to contain them all, we choose what we focus on with our intentions. To focus on gratitude does not mean we ignore the challenging parts of life, although many do to their ruin, but ought to give us the energy and confidence to address it with courage and patience. There is always time for more gratitude, it does more to change my life from the greyscaling of society back to the vibrancy of being gifted, be it by the Divine, good fortune or some other cause.

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
