How about some good quotes from Rev. Dr. Dale E. Turner. I am not too familiar with Rev. Turner. Here is his brief biography. The Rev. Dr. Dale Turner served 24 years (1958-1982) as senior minister of University Congregational Church in Seattle. On to his good common sense quotes!
It is important to live each day with a positive perspective. It is not wise to pretend problems do not exist, but it is wise to look beyond the problem to the possibilities that are in it. When Goliath came against the Israelites, the soldiers all thought, 'He's so big, we can never kill him.' But David looked at the same giant and thought, 'He's so big, I can't miss him.
Great quote - I try to keep this sentiment in mind. Be positive and be real. I try to keep that in mind and as part of my engagement in life even when I have severe misgivings about how things are going in the world. I mentioned in our Coffee Talk discussion yesterday that my personal life is very blessed, my local life in the community is generally very good and my concerns about the nation and world are troubled.

Still laughing - there are many who sit on the lid as it were. So many of them are in positions of education and authority in our culture and throughout the West and perhaps beyond Western culture. That scares the crap of me. It scares the crap out of me that I often sit on my own proverbial lid and don't realize it until I have invested too much personal pride in my own blindness. While humble pie is not a favor dessert for any of us, it is one we should not fear if we want to face life honestly. Happy dining!

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
