How about some quotes on the experience of Saturdays from various talking heads, which I guess is all of us, most of us just aren't that quotable.

For a gut punch of nostalgia, consider that Saturday morning cartoons are now largely a thing of the past. -Michael O'Rielly.

Weekends are sacred for me. They’re the perfect time to relax and spend time with family and friends. -Marcus Samuelsson.

May the clouds in your life be only a background for a lovely sunset. -Irish Proverb.

Saturday mornings were magical in my childhood. I am so thankful for the Saturday morning cartoons, the day beginning so early and spending the entirety of it outside, visiting with friends or playing sports. Saturdays were such good days. While the teen years included more chores on Saturday, most of them weren't burdensome as much as time consuming. All things considered, it was a good transition into adulthood, not without its bumps.

I remember Dad, sitting at the kitchen table reading the morning newspaper, drinking coffee, clad in the thinnest vee-cut tee shirt know to man as well as his boxer shorts. He refused to get dressed most Saturdays until after 9:00 AM. It was his one easy morning every week. If Mom came in from a yard sale, auction or estate sale (all Saturday rituals for Momma) she would be all flustered if he wasn't dressed. There was almost always a guarantee that she had something that "mostly worked" and "Roy can fix it."

It was a fun combo, Dad liked tinkering with almost anything mechanical or electric and was a big fan of disassembling things to see how they worked. Putting them back together with parts left over was often a confoundment. Mom bought the "junk" as we kids called it, and Dad went through post yard sale triage to determine if it was repairable, spare parts or just junk to be discarded. There was always an ample supply of fix-ables, there was a Friday night auction every week where Mom shopped for all things odd and unusual.

Saturdays - mostly magical, typically enjoyable, always gone too fast. Happy Saturday Local's Neighbors! A meme inspired by Momma.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
