Amphigory - Noun | am-fi-gohr-ee | Nineteenth century. English
A piece of writing that appears to have meaning but is really just foolish nonsense.
Sentence Usage:
Padre liked to post morning thoughts on Locals that purported to be thoughtful, humorous and reflective, but he often wondered if it was just an exercise in amphigory.
Hopefully you chuckled, I did. š It is one of the dangers of being a public speaker, even if it is a captive church assembly, that you think you actually have something to say. It applies even more to writing, especially for all of us grammatically challenged and typo ridden writers, do we actually have something worth reading? For myself, when I preach at Mass, speak at some public gathering or write something for the bulletin or here, I begin with what I need to hear about the topic. Here it tends to be more the dance between humor, reflection and my preachy rants.
Either way assume you probably have something to share. Even if it is not at a speaking event or writing, there is something about your story, perspective or experience that is worth sharing with someone. It might be a comment on a post, a meme, or some passing comment at a real life event. Also assume that others have something to share and if given the chance, encouragement or opportunity they might.
Rand liked to talk down at Liz's. Rand talked so much that he was often avoided by others because he was a chronic space-invader and breathless monologuer posing as a conversationalist. Not a bad chap. but one that often wore out the welcome 10 minutes into the convo-monologue and wondered why people found reasons to excuse themselves from the verbal mire. To be honest, I doubt he even noticed people excusing themselves, he was too busy finding the next set of ears to test.
While I might unfairly cast aspersions on Rand, I know that as an extravert I can be guilty of overtalking, interrupting and monopolizing conversations. The mindfulness of that tendency at least gives me a reason to pause and ask if others have something to say. I try to self-monitor as much as possible and gently monitor others in real life conversation so that the more hesitant or introverted might have an opportunity to talk if they so desire.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. - Mark Twain
Happy Wednesday my friends!
Lotus Blossom (Is this correct - just posting what the search engine said it was?)
Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman FranƧois-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).
Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the āSun Kingā (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaireās main love was writingāan endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Good Morning, Digital Neighbors, and Blessed Sunday to one and all!
Sundays are for gratitude, and few things impact our lives more than intentional gratitude. It is not enough to say you are blessed or that you are fortunate; the actual naming of our blessings plants them deep in the heart, transforming us as persons rather than leaving us with the bland āthankful for everything.ā
Two years ago, I wrote this reflection on resentment and gratitude. In light of the celebration of our nationās 250th anniversary, I think itās worth revisiting. We can choose to be among those who are thankful for America or among those who find nothing but fault with it.
You cannot build a future based on resentments of the past. You cannot grow if you are mired in the injuries of yesterday. God and life do not call us to ignore such experiences, but He constantly calls us forwardāto be more, to receive more, to live more. Heal those wounds and work through those injuries, but do not be defined by them, and do not try to ...
