Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Happy Sunday to all of the Supporters, Members and Visitors to Locals, especially all of you find souls at Rubin Report, Phetasy, Triggernometry and At Padre's. Sure, sure, I have all of my affectations and endearments for all of you, it is sort of a family thing, all of us had nicknames in the family. Too much Tommy, (post birth hysterectomy) The Lord Mayor of Ireland, (Momma was gonzo Irish) and Pug Mahon (which she thought mean pain in the ass, not kiss my ass.) Pug Mahon remains my favorite childhood nickname after we learned it actual meaning.

Nicknames are funny, playful, a tad pointy and sometimes they can cut a little too much. If you want to keep them among the first three, it behooves you to pay attention to the reactions of the recipients so that the cutting edge is acknowledged when it gets a little too close to the bone. However, if you are easily hurt, perma-offended, or pre-wounded, don't expect to have many funny relationships. If you are always getting your feelings hurt or tweaked, you are probably setting yourself up to be ignored by more considerate or kinder souls. There will be less laughter and playfulness in your relationships, but your feelings won't get hurt or triggered. I wonder if many of the WOKE have entered this stage of being? I think when there is a void of laughter, anger seems to fill that emotional space. If not anger, then some sort of strange borrowed sorrow or faux-empathy for whatever your "cause" might be. Enough musings over coffee. Off to the morning quote. Have a great day my friends! PUG MAHON!!!😁

I will try to discover some new beauty, some new sound or sight or thought that I have never heard nor seen nor contemplated. I will try to show my appreciation for this gift of beauty by giving in return some part of myself. I will make some small part of this world a little better than it was, and this undertaking may be so grand as the planting of a tree or so small as the picking up of a scrap of paper on the street.
I will not turn away from ugliness, in my environment or in the people with whom I share this earth. Sometimes in ugliness there is beauty hidden, and where there is not, it lies within my power to make the ugly a little less so.
And so I will not respond to the hostility of man—or nature—with anger or vindictiveness. I will turn away ill-temper with a smile and chide only myself for not carrying an umbrella when it rains. Our years on this planet are brief enough. Let it be said of me when I am gone: ā€œHe gave as much or more than he got. He may not have found beauty every day of his life, but he looked for it every day of his life.ā€ - W. B. PRESCOTT

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman FranƧois-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the ā€œSun Kingā€ (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
