Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Happy Sunday ADD Irregulars, Vagabonds of the WSN, Refugees, Phamily and Triggeratti! Another swing at the day for all of you Early Birds, Later Dayers, Dawn Patrolling and Fascinating People! I didn't forget you Bigots, just finished the Rogan & the Lads interview, it was great and took about 3 days to digest it all with some rewinding to get context of their topical discussions with Joe. Good stuff!

Some thoughts on perseverance, not a very flashy virtue, but one of the most important ones for getting the most out of life. Constant commitment and effort can bring about amazing transformations in life. In an age when we have been conditioned to the immediate and effortless, actual perseverance is a secret weapon. No pills, remote controls or "time and labor" saving devices can make up for the hard work and daily mindset that flows from an attitude of perseverance.

When I practice and pursue perseverance I reap the benefits, when I abandon it the slow slide into a worse version of me begins to take over my life. I know how much I depend on grace as a disciple, the helps of co-workers in my pastoring and the influence of friends in my life, but none of them will help me if I don't engage myself with some degree of perseverance. A familiar quote from St. Augustine is never far from my mind even if it is not always embrace in my actions. Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you. - Saint Augustine I am not a believer in a micromanager Deity, something akin to the gods and goddess of Greek and Roman mythology controlling the fate of mortals. I do believe in a subtle and humble One who is more like the air we breathe and the water we drink tracing movements and inspirations that are often only recognized in hindsight and very often by surprise. Well, on to some quote on perseverance and something beautiful from July photography to round out this month and being this day. Have a great Sunday my friends, it is my favorite day of the week for a variety of reasons, God, my parish family and all of you digital neighbors who make my visits on Locals so enjoyable.

Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time. - John C Maxwell

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together. - Vincent Van Gogh

BEGIN AGAIN

NEVER say failure is NOT an option -
The SUCCESS of failure is;
How you get up
How you dust yourself off
How you begin the next day.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV.
