Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Happy Monday ADD Irregulars, Friends, Refugees and Phamily! I hope you all had a great weekend, We have had outstanding weather here in the middle of nowhere Missouri for the last week and a half. It is only weather, but I don't take the beautiful days for granted. It is too easy to complain about the miserable weather and forget how wonderful the good weather is.
How about some prayers or meditations for the week? Not everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine. 😁I often remind my daily listeners that prayer is not about changing God, that is one thing prayer does not do. Prayer can change you, and in unknown ways it may change others, but the discernible change is in the mind and heart of the Seeker. Connecting with the Divine in manifold ways is real goal of prayer and whatever is the content and nature of your prayer. Silence, spontaneous prayers, formal prayers and communal prayers all have their place in one's life and the mix will vary for everyone. Well enough of the obvious, off to a prayer from Illuminata: Thoughts, Prayers and Rites of Passage. I bought the book in the 90's and have always appreciated Marianne Williamson's perspective on prayer. While I would not have voted for her in 2020, I did find her more authentically appealing than many of the other candidates that were running.
Dear God,
I give this day to You.
May my mind stay centered on the things of spirit.
May I not be tempted to stray from love.
As I begin this day, I open to receive You.
Please enter where You already abide.
May my mind and heart be pure and true, and may I not deviate from the things of goodness.
May I see the love and innocence in all mankind, behind the masks we all wear and the illusions of this worldly plane.
I surrender to You my doings this day.
I ask only that they serve You and the healing of the world.
May I bring Your love and goodness with me, to give unto others wherever I go.
Make me the person You would have me be.
Direct my footsteps, and show me what You would have me do.
Make the world a safer, more beautiful place.
Bless all Your creatures.
Heal us all, and use me, dear Lord, that I might know the joy of being used by You.
Amen.
A beautiful photo from somewhere 😄
Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).
Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
