Good Morning ADD Irregulars, Phamily, Refugees and Friends! Happy Tuesday to all of my Digital Neighbors ac ross Locals. Prayer is not everyone's cup of tea, after all many doubt or are convinced there is no God. I don't have a problem with Atheist or Agnostics, one of my closest friends growing up was agnostic and was convinced the whole 'God-thing" was rubbish and that belief in such an incompetent or indifferent Being was certainly not worthy of worship or even acknowledgment. An all-powerful, all-good and all-loving Being seems to be a rather poor job of things, fair enough. It all depends on what you think that Being should be doing. In this age of spiritual humility the working is more subtle. For most Objectors, that is laughable. In the end there are usually no good answers to those criticism that would intellectually satisfy an Objector because there is no criterion establish for an avenue of conversion or even admission of acceptable differences. I am willing to admit that my beliefs might end up false in the end. I am also willing to stake my life and its pursuits that it is not. I see sublet signs, others might wonder if I've had too much sun or perhaps have imbibed a tad much. Anyways, this is an aside to the morning mediation. Whatever you walk in life and whatever might be your guiding principle or power, I just hope it is something more than "what pleases me at this moment". Off to the meditation!😁

THE VACATION

I imagine I retire to a lonely place
to give myself the gift of solitude,
for solitude is a time when I see things as they are.

What are the little things in life
that lack of solitude has magnified unduly?

What are the really big things
that I find too little time for?

Solitude is the time to make decisions.
What decisions do I need to make
or reconsider
at this juncture of my life?

I now make a decision
about the kind of day today shall be.

Will it be a day of doing?
I list the things I really want to do today.

Will it also be a day of being
—no effort to achieve,
to get things done,
to gather or possess,
but just to be?

My life will not bear fruit
unless I learn the art of lying fallow,
the art of ā€œwastingā€ time creatively.

So I decide what time to give to play,
to purposeless and unproductive interests,
to silence, intimacy, rest.
And I ask myself what I shall taste today,
and touch
and smell
and listen to
and see.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman FranƧois-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the ā€œSun Kingā€ (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
