Good Morning Digital Neighbors! So sorry I dropped the ball of my morning ifferisms yesterday, so today you get DOUBLE THE HOT AIR from your friendly neighborhood friar. Commentary, babbling or snark after the smarter things other people have said. Happy Friday ADD Irregulars, Refugees (Welcome back @DaveRubin) and Phamily!

If you are losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul to lose. - Charles Bukowski

And if you know you are losing it, you still have a chance to recover it. That wisdom not only applies to you soul, but also your health, your mind and your engagement. None of those need to be static states or perma-states of resignation.

If men are so wicked with religion, what would they be without it. - Benjamin Franklin

Last century should serve as an illustration of what Mr. Franklin warned. When you think you are not accountable to anyone, you are free to do anything. It is the folly of all those blinded by their own power and authority. It is an illusion that the elite believe, but when the masses rise up in revolt they find out otherwise. Sadly, they masses rise up too infrequently against those who exploit them. People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people. 😁

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; but if you really make them think, they'll hate you. - Don Marquis

No good deed goes unpunished. The real thinking in life, as seldom as it can occur for the walking numb, can actually be life changing. When we venture into actual thinking, we have to have a willingness to be proven wrong, ignorant and biased. Most people can stand such risks. If your thinking only and always confirms what you already know, is it really thinking?

If one only wished to be happy, this could be easily accomplished; but we wish to be happier than other people, and this is always difficult, for we believe others to happier than they are. - Charles De Montesquieu

ENVY - of all the seven deadly sins it is the one that gives you NOTHING. It is the sourest of our darker waters. Envy is cowardly and resentful and can only accomplish things when it is fueled by anger. Envy doesn't accomplish anything of its own it only seeks to destroy what it resents. Cultivate gratitude, see life as a gift and strive to make the best out of what you have and what you hope to be.

If we're looking for the sources of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power. - P. J. O'Rourke

I love me some good P J O'Rourke quotes. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend my friends & digital neighbors!

September morning somewhere

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Meme of The Week Nominees

Happy National Best Friends Day Y'all!
I strongly suggest combining celebrations for this with National Name Your Poison Day and National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Think I'll have to wash a custard doughnut down with a cold beer later.
