Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you living in the USA and Happy Thursday to the rest of you on our amazing little ball of life! Yesterday morning the internet in the neighborhood was down and trying to post from the phone is something less than appealing to me. By the time it was back on line, the day had moved on and the rambling had moved on to the poor souls trapped in my actual company.

Of all the days that seem a natural fit for Disciples of the Master, Thanksgiving is near the top of the list. While we are prone to celebrate the great acts and moments of the Master such as Christmas and Easter, thanksgiving is the attitude that all disciples are supposed to adopt as one of their overall emotional and mental settings. Disciples devoid of thanksgiving, not seeking to adopt and promote gratitude as an overall posture to life, have yet to let the message and the person of the Master embrace their heart.

Gratitude does mean that we ignore the challenges, trials and disappointments of life. Gratitude invites us to see as clearly as possible that each day is a gift and that even the difficult and demanding days are all part of the unique story of our lives. Emotions are a strange thing, and the emotions you display to the world often serve as a magnet for what you attract and receive. Many negative, cynical and fearful people never realize the prison of their own making. Gratitude is an invitation to clearly see the immediate experience and to place it within the context of the human experience.

I am so very thankful for the people I encounter in my actual neighborhood and in this digital neighbor for being a cause of gratitude in my life. While I have a deep fondness for the ADD Irregulars who frequent the Coffee Talk and Speakeasy, I would never have gotten to know them if not for Local's and the communities were we met. While Zoom opens up a more personal dimension of neighboring, I am still very thankful for the interactions of the Supporters who post and comment in all of these communities, that is how I have gotten to know so many people in life, even if it is only a small window into that person's life, it is a good one 99% of the time. May those known to me have a a great day and may those I have yet to know have a great one as well!

Blessed Thanksgiving Friends & Refugees, Early Birds & Later Dayers, Conversants and Lurkers, Phamily & Dawn Patrol, Triggeratti, Fascinating People and Hilarious Bigots, Seekers of Sanity & Civility, Quarterlings and of course ADD Irregulars and Vagabonds and Patrons of the Weird Shit Niche'!

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV.
