Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Happy Wednesday to the ADD Irregulars, Friends & Refugees, Phamily & Misfits, Young Heretics and anyone else in the Locals-sphere of communities.

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. - Henry David Thoreau

In yesterday's reading at Mass Christ asked the Apostles if they didn't grasp what He was about. Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? The answer is yes, clueless clods who are amazing at the miracles but really don't grasp the message that mattered much more than the miracles. Too often miracles, which I believe are real and possible, interfered with the massage of conversation and personal discipleship to Jesus. He came to give us a way of life called the Gospel.

I know I speak to mixed seekers in these various Local's communities, and I never venture among you with the intention of trying to convert anyone to the faith. I come as a neighbor and fellow pilgrim on the journey of life. I come seeking the goodness in humanity, a dash a wisdom, a bit of laughter, some hearty rants about culture and politics and the spewing forth of my own morning thoughts as the day unfolds. I come to read the collective wisdom, experience and at times absurdity of the various Supporters in these communities. I have a real fondness for Padre's as my own roost, but I am thankful for @DaveRubin & @BridgetPhetasy for the communities they host that keep me coming back to Locals and making it a place of welcome.

Seeing, Hearing, Thinking - awakening your mind and stirring your soul is what matters to me. I am not sure how it happens for you, but I know how it happened for me. An odd combination of the Gospel and fiction, especially my high school & college reading in fantasy and science fiction stirred the pot. Philosophy came along and add some final nuances that keep me humble in my seeking and not so cocksure about what I know for certain and hold as truth. I can accept revelation more readily than the finding of science and I am not a religious zealot. I can appreciate ancient and modern philosophical endeavors with greater confidence than I can the current fad of scolding culture and guilt driven discussions. The WOKE have taken all the worst manipulations of guilt laden religion and used it to control or silence anyone not willing to espouse their empty ideology.

Well, you know I can rant on for too long of a time about the CABAL, but I rather encourage you to find the threads that stir your imagination, that open your eyes just a little or remove a tiny bit of wax that makes actual listening difficult. Ah ha and hmmm moments need to happen more often, I hope you find a path and people that aid you in the life project. Happy Wednesday digital neighbors!

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Good Morning, Digital Neighbors, and Blessed Sunday to one and all!
Sundays are for gratitude, and few things impact our lives more than intentional gratitude. It is not enough to say you are blessed or that you are fortunate; the actual naming of our blessings plants them deep in the heart, transforming us as persons rather than leaving us with the bland “thankful for everything.”

Two years ago, I wrote this reflection on resentment and gratitude. In light of the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, I think it’s worth revisiting. We can choose to be among those who are thankful for America or among those who find nothing but fault with it.

You cannot build a future based on resentments of the past. You cannot grow if you are mired in the injuries of yesterday. God and life do not call us to ignore such experiences, but He constantly calls us forward—to be more, to receive more, to live more. Heal those wounds and work through those injuries, but do not be defined by them, and do not try to ...
