Good Morning ADD Irregulars, WSN Purveyors, and all you Digital Neighbors! A reflection for perspective as our day gets underway. This jumped out at me after listening to Jim Valvano's speech. That speech is a great reminder on the perspective we can strive to possess with attitude & effort.

Attitude isn't everything, but if your attitude sucks, if you think going through life with crap-covered lens makes you a realist, you will miss out on so much. I had those lens for a while as a young man, and they aren't realistic nor actually helpful. Life is too messy and humanity too fractured to have rosy tinted glasses, clear glasses with a little tint of hopefulness, with a little magnification by grace are about the best that I can find. Grace magnification doesn't mean we are back on the rosy track of ignoring the mess, closing our eyes to the brokenness or pretending there isn't evil, I think it means more than we are not imprisoned by all those real negative realities and trials of existence. Rising above and hoping beyond are real human experiences that can change our living. Laugh, think and cry as Jim said. Be alive, be grateful, be in wonder.

When I was young, I never knew
one half the things that now I do—
I never realized that fame
may prove an empty, hollow game—
that wealth, despite all it can do,
but rarely brings contentment too—
that beauty, though its power be strong,
will not hide emptiness for long.
I did not guess that every deed
writes on the face lines all may read.
I did not know, when I was young,
a sense of humor is among
life’s greatest gifts, nor did I see
that understanding, sympathy,
of true, tried friends will still hold
sway when shallow loves have passed away.

I did not dream pain can lead higher—
that love is stronger than desire.

Giles Harcourt, Giles; . Short Prayers for the Long Day

Happy Wednesday my friends!! Thank for being one of the key ingredients to a good perspective and healthy attitude in my living.

BONUS!!!
Teach me O Lord,
in the midst of noise,
the bustle of business,
that you are there, near,
close by, even within the creative noise
I sometimes cannot bear:
That I can find quietness
and peace within,
to regain my strength and offer it to you,
for your glory’s sake.
Amen.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
