I laid me down and slept;
I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
If I can do some good today,
if I can serve along life’s way,
if I can something helpful say,
Lord, show me how.

If I can right a human wrong,
if I can help to make one strong,
if I can cheer with smile or song,
Lord, show me how.

If I can aid one in distress,
if I can make a burden less,
if I can spread more happiness.
Lord, show me how. - Greenville Kleiser

Good Morning Digitial Neighbors! Happy Friday ADD Irregulars & WSN Confectioners, Conversants & Lurkers, Seekers & Lost, PHAM & Misfits, Refugees & Friends from across Locals! You made it through another week, not such a big deal to me since I am just as bust during the weekend as during the week, but I do remember when Fridays held a feel of immense promise and expectation.

I had a great day yesterday with all my comings & goings. The Wicked Chicken Cafe in High Ridge is an excellent diner. I went there yesterday morning for breakfast (which I rarely eat but I woke up hungry and coffee wasn't enough) and then I returned for a working dinner that evening. Both meals were excellent and I cannot recommend it enough if you are in the area.

Thus far I have scoped out Shenanigan's as a good local bar to haunt, Happy Wok as a place for good Chinese Take-out and Wicked Chicken Café as a place for great breakfast & brunch food served 7 AM to 9 PM seven days a week. I have also visited a few local businesses to introduce myself and get to know some more of the neighbors who may not be Catholic. Most importantly, is getting to know names and remember them. When possible, I try to learn names and find a way to make them stick. Hey you just doesn't cut it in my mind & heart anymore, I don't always remember names well, but God has given me a good gift for remembering many names.

I miss my old parish family of IHM and think of them most in these early hours of the morning and as the day is ending. I am excited to get to know the parish families of Queen of Peace and St. Anthony.

As I get to know neighbors here in House Springs & High Ridge I have come across some interesting ones. My name is so vanilla. TOM -try not to yawn too much. But I like to say one can never have enough Toms, we are good souls for the most part. I am sure there are some Toms that are asses, but I have met many good ones. Cassius & Tarquin when the lottery this week for most remarkable names, I met playing with their Belgian shepherd puppy outside a manufacturing business. Their father (Tom) was great to visit with and told me the history of his business and the wire frames their make their for various places around the nation. The smell of a machine shop brings back memories of my father and the smell of his work. There is something solid about that smell. Anyways, Tom was a really good guy and I look forward to getting to know him as time passes.

Some links to the local haunts and a graphic of The Wicked Chicken. Happy Friday my friends.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Good Morning, Digital Neighbors, and Blessed Sunday to one and all!
Sundays are for gratitude, and few things impact our lives more than intentional gratitude. It is not enough to say you are blessed or that you are fortunate; the actual naming of our blessings plants them deep in the heart, transforming us as persons rather than leaving us with the bland “thankful for everything.”

Two years ago, I wrote this reflection on resentment and gratitude. In light of the celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, I think it’s worth revisiting. We can choose to be among those who are thankful for America or among those who find nothing but fault with it.

You cannot build a future based on resentments of the past. You cannot grow if you are mired in the injuries of yesterday. God and life do not call us to ignore such experiences, but He constantly calls us forward—to be more, to receive more, to live more. Heal those wounds and work through those injuries, but do not be defined by them, and do not try to ...
