Good Morning Digitial Neighbors! Happy Wednesday Friends & Refugees at the Report, PHAM & Misfits rambling on Phetasy and all you ADD Irregulars and WSN Curators at Padre's. Hello to all you Conversants, Lurkers, Seekers, Wanderers, Lost and any who rise early enough to an Early Bird or honorary flight member of the Dawn Patrol.

I was too bust writing letters for the new parishes yesterday morning and let the time slip away from me without some morning rambling, caterwauling or something ponderable to share. Much like my preaching to the local pew sitters, my first audience is myself and if it doesn't interest me, I doubt I could make it interesting to others. I try not to do that in an egotistical way, but more of "here is what is going on inside my head or heart" and I thought I would share it with you. Reader beware!

MORNING LIGHT

Each day the soul decides whether
or not to enter yet one more time
into this carousel, blinks open
the body’s eyes to nearly
morning light, lifts the head
in glory to God’s vast sky,
climbs the legs out of bed
to keep moving on this
journey to understanding
the mystery and beauty
of being alive. - Barbara Schmitz

The mystery and beauty of being alive is part of the childlike heart that that Master espoused for His disciples. Not a child like mind, or a childlike attitude, but heart that find mystery and wonder in being alive. The giftedness of life is there for the appreciative, the mystery (more of a stance of amazement than a profession of ignorance) of life and creation opens our heart and mind to find beauty and goodness in abundance. It doesn't always make the difficult chapter magically concluded, but it does serve as a constant reminder on even the worst of day that life is a gift, that goodness is possible, that beauty is real and both have the power to heal the broken. Laughter is perhaps the only medicine better for the soul -wounded and heart broken than goodness or beauty. Laughter can heal more of life hurts, add a healthy perspective and a humble awareness of self that few other things can do. Laughter/humor can be cruel and vicious, so it is not without its edges and poisons, but few things compare to playful humor, to hearty laughter and shared joy.

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”― Victor Borge

Of course for myself, faith gathers all of those up into a bundle of gratitude that enriches my life. Not naively, but rather in humble awareness that I am an invited guest to life who often feels like a treasure seeker who accidently fell into the Pharoah's vault beneath my feet. I never knew such riches existed and they were here all the time. Anyways, Happy Wednesday Digital Neighbors!

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
