Your thought for the day. If you don’t like where you are in life, you have the power to begin the change. Today is the day to chart the new course, to take the first step, to change the story you are writing. May God bless you if you have to make that courageous step, many don’t because fear so rules their hearts. Many others have let complacency and distraction numb their imagination and interest that resignation is the pervasive reality. If your life is good, keep discerning what makes it so much the richer and strive to maintain or expand that richness. Often it does not require more things, but rather more effort, engagement and patience. Whatever path you find yourself on, I pray it remains one worthy of your time, and if not you have the courage to change it and imagine something different. Peace my digital neighbors.

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).
Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV.
