WEDNESDAY, WEDNESDAY, WEDNESDAY!!!  Now I want to go to some monster truck pull, demolition derby or other event at your local stadium!   Good Morning, Digital Neighbors! Happy Wednesday to all you supporters and lurkers at Phetasy, Rubin Report and Padre’s!   Another day, another quote!  Off we go!

There is always the possibility of beauty where there is an unsealed human eye; of music where there is an unstopped human ear; and of inspiration where there is a receptive human spirit. - Charles Henry Parkhurst

Who is Charles Henry Parkhurts you might ask? Thus Spake Groc-a-thustra!

Charles Henry Parkhurst (April 17, 1842 – September 8, 1933) was an influential American Presbyterian clergyman, social reformer, and author best known for his bold crusade against political corruption in late 19th-century New York City, particularly targeting the Tammany Hall machine and its ties to police-protected vice.

Parkhurst's work exemplified the Progressive Era's blend of moral fervor and civic activism, inspiring later reformers and earning him enduring recognition as a pivotal figure in cleaning up New York City's governance.

New York could use another Charles Henry Parkhurts. The Big Apple is rotting away so quickly.  I edited GROC’s response to get on with the thought of the day. Go GROC him yourself if you desire more. What I really appreciate about his sentiment is the idea that our experience of life is really on us. Seem self-evident, but it is not to so many. They wait for others to bring things into their life, rather than bringing it themselves.  I am a big fan of “if you want something in life, bring it to the table yourself”.  Don’t wait for other people to bring joy to your life, don’t wait to find beauty but share it with others. I know not everyone can do that, but if you can, why don’t you?

I am a divided soul, part of me thinks we are all so screwed as a species and we won’t survive this current chapter of insanity, the other part fueled by faith believes we can recover from this mess or any mess.  Somewhere in between is where I live by prayer, humor and patience.   I try to keep grounded with a hopeful perspective without being overly naïve or wishful.  Contrary to what most may think, faith for me is an immersion, not a flight from reality. I pray to see things as clearly as possible. I try to respond to them with as much thought (and a bit of smart-@ssery) as possible.  I am far from perfect, but I strive to be present, attentive and most receptive to the world about me.  Beauty is one of those things that keeps me receptive, appreciative and humble.  Beauty reveals the face of the Hidden One who is its source and fulfillment.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
