Good morning, digital neighbors! Happy Thursday! Thursday is a day for quotes and here are a few more for you to chew on from Jung.
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine or idealism.
As a child I felt myself to be alone, and I am still, because I know things and must hint at things which others apparently know nothing of, and for the most part do not want to know.
All three of those quotes are worth some time and reflection. While I have varied opinions on the usefulness of some methods of psychology, anything that helps you gain greater self-awareness, more personal self-possession and interior reflection is a step in the right direction. Scott Adams used to quip that about 25% of people have no sense of humor and do not understand humor. We talk often at Padre’s about how many people have no interior dialogue either. I don’t know how much those two groups overlap, but I imagine there is some overlap of those humorless souls and the “test-pattern” people with no interior reflection. I think anyone who has dared to differ, sought to understand more, or wrestled with any type of self-doubt can relate to the final quote from Jung.
Bonus quote that I came across on Substack:
“The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.” — Bertrand Russell

His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
Happy National Best Friends Day Y'all!
I strongly suggest combining celebrations for this with National Name Your Poison Day and National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Think I'll have to wash a custard doughnut down with a cold beer later.
