Good Morning, digital neighbors! Happy Tuesday to all you fine souls across the internet who frequent the Rubin Report, Phetasy, Outspoken, or Padre’s! One of the more recent books added to my collection is There’s a Word for It: A Grandiloquent Guide to Life by Charles Harrington Elster. In the introduction, Charles describes himself as a logomaniac and verbivore. He dives right into the fun words from the very first page, and it’s a delightful read. It’s unlikely I’ll read it cover to cover; instead, I’ll pick it up and flip to random pages to see what treasures he has to offer.
Today’s offering is pygalgia (py-GAL-juh) – a pain in the butt. Please be careful to distinguish it from proctalgia (prahk-TAL-juh), a pain in the anus, or rectalgia (rek-TAL-juh), a pain in the rectum.
A funny aside: my mother mistakenly thought that “Pug Mahon” meant “pain in the butt,” and it became one of my childhood nicknames. When we traveled to Ireland much later in life, she was surprised to discover that “póg mo thóin” does not mean “pain in the butt,” but rather “kiss my arse.” I liked the nickname even more after that! Happy Tuesday, my friends!

Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
Happy National Best Friends Day Y'all!
I strongly suggest combining celebrations for this with National Name Your Poison Day and National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Think I'll have to wash a custard doughnut down with a cold beer later.
