Saturday Morning Thoreau

Good Morning Digital Neighbors & Friends! Happy Saturday Phamily, Refugees, Triggeratti, Early Birds, Dawn Patrol and Fascinating People! I haven't forgotten you Bigots, Conversants and Lurkers! Some Morning quotes from Henry David to prime your pump and ponder with your coffee and crumpets.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. - Henry David Thoreau

Marching to the beat of your own drum is part of the Enlightened mythos, authoritarian collectivism is not. Not all collectives are bad, we belong to so many, voluntarily. Compulsion is the real issue. For the jolly Authoritarian, their ideas are so compelling that they must force you to adopt them. Where there is no will or means to resist, they can make great progress in the bending of wills by the breaking of bodies. There are many nations to exemplify this. There are exceptions, but none perfect because people aren't perfect. While people aren't perfect, they can strive for higher ideals. The foundation of an evolving Judeo-Christians ethos vs the Frankensteined & Wokeified Marxism. Stay tuned for the end of the match - the fight isn't over. Be part of it by your contribution to society, to civility, to the expression of ideas and the freedom to question. Which leads us to the other quote by Henry David.

So behave that the odor of your actions may enhance the general sweetness of the atmosphere. - Henry David Thoreau

Somewhere in Vermont the sun rose and someone captured it. Happy Saturday Friends!

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV.
