Good Morning Digital Neighbors at Locals! Happy Saturday Phamily, Refugees, Triggeratti & ADD Irregulars! How about some quotes on heroism for all of you Early Birds, Later Dayers, Dawn Patrol, Day Walkers, Fascinating People, Conversants, Lurkers, Supporters, Members and you of course you Lovely Bigots!
Jacob Alvarado - Search out his name if you don't know it. His name needs to be remembered and honored. Not the people who commit evil acts picked over in countless articles by our media outlets, not the victims of the police brutality who often are anything but angelic innocents caught in a moment of misfortune, not someone who is angry that the sperm that won ruined their lives and assigned then the "wrong" gender.
Jacob - I am sure he is a flawed individual. I will take flawed and courageous any day over the "idols" we are encouraged to esteem in our warped culture. I am so weary of the inmates who have taken over the asylum and continue to try to force insanity as normative. Heroes - I hope you have some and I hope you honor them. I am often a skeptical and jaded observer of culture and politics, but I do believe in the potential goodness of humanity. I wouldn't call it our factory settings, but rather the second chapter of life called mature questioning. Whatever leads you to that threshold is doing you a service and a burden.
Be it religion, philosophy, science, music or the arts, your moment of mature questioning can set you on the adventure of trying to make the best of the little acre of life entrusted to you. Heroes remind us that it can be done. That ordinary, flawed individuals can have moments of exceptionalism is all I need to know. I will happily celebrate the courageous imperfect over the perfect that does not exist, nor yesterday's mental case now proposed as a "hero" by the Cabal. Actual heroes risk comfort, safety and life for others. The other might be the folks back home, the solider at their side, or someone else, but whoever the other is, a hero sacrifices for them. On to the quotes!
Calculation never made a hero. - John Henry Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine
Heroism is the brilliant triumph of the soul over the flesh - that is to say, over fear: fear of poverty, of suffering, of calumny, of sickness, of isolation, and of death. There is no serious piety without heroism. Heroism is the dazzling and glorious concentration of courage. - Henri Frederic Amiel, Journal Intime, 1 October 1849
Heroes are people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences. - Unknown

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).
Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
