Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Blessed Sunday to all the Triggeratti, ADD Irregulars, Refugees & PHAM! I hope your weekend is going swimmingly well my dear Bigots, Dawn Patrol, Early Birds, Later Dayers, Fascinating People, Day Walkers, Conversants, Lurkers and Visitors to the WSN (weird shit niche') of Local communities. WSN was coined by one of the Irregulars at Coffee Talk for context and perspective. šŸ˜‰ A simple reminder for this Sunday from Barbara Younger with some commentary by the Friar.

COUNTING BLESSINGS
Count them
Constantly,
With each step,
With each breath,
With each blink,
Blessings!
Counting, counting,
Constantly.

Providential God, good fortune, blind luck, hard work- to whatever you attribute your blessings, it is a good personal practice to list them to yourself so you do not forget that they exist. If you find your life devoid of blessings, I pray someone or something opens your eyes even a little to find one ray of sunlight, one grain of beauty to provide that glimmer of hope without which many of our inner-selves wither.

Peace my friends, I have overflowing blessings in my life, not that it is not without its challenges and difficulties. Too often in the moment, in the beginning of an unfolding crap-fest, I am tempted to give into the feelings of the moment and believe the immediacy of this current trouble is the unfolding of something far worse. Rarely is that the case, but feelings in the moment, seem so real. Feelings are real, in terms of reaction, but in terms of perception they are so often inaccurate. Rather sad that our current chapter of feeling analysis in the West is to enshrine our feelings as without question, rather than the beginning of questions to the self. To be trapped in distorted feelings is almost as bad as thinking you possess no blessings. In fact, if your distortions go without question, you will cultivate a far darker interior state than imaginable. Well, I guess not unimaginable, since we see more and more of it on display in the daily theater of the absurd that we call the news.

Feelings (suddenly someone at a Kimball stores is playing one of those intrusive mall organs, thankfully usually not singing), nothing more than feelings. . . . Great for creativity, for the coloring life with vibrancy, for opening the door to affective understanding, but rarely reliable for life decisions. There are rare circumstance when they are the reason you will make a sudden, perhaps even heroic choice, but more often than not they are more of a roll of the dice for accuracy.

Blessings - I have counted mine already in this early morning. I hope you can find yours and they will make a difference in how you venture forth into the day and the people you will meet.

The pride of Texas - Katelyn E.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman FranƧois-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the ā€œSun Kingā€ (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Happy Friday, Digital Neighbors!! Slept in a little this morning. Woke up at my ordinary time, hit the hour timer, and wandered back into short, incoherent dreamland. It was a good hour to try and get a little more rest after a long day yesterday. We had a good staff team-building day with personal prayer and then looking at the DISC tool as a way to appreciate our gifts as we work together for the good of our parish family.

Had a meeting in the evening to explore using our auditorium for an Emergency Overnight Shelter in the winter for the homeless and unhoused in our local area. Lots of potential, lots of work if that is to come to fruition. As I mentioned last night, this is where the rubber hits the road on personal charity. People feel comfortable giving money to support charities, but the possibility of hosting and staffing one is way out of the comfort zone for most. Prayer and time will tell.
Off to some ā€œifferismsā€ for your Friday cup of Joe.

If you get gloomy, just take an ...

The Beautiful

Ā

The Beautiful

Ā

Said the Disciple to the Lover, ā€œSir, before I left the world I heard certain men who were held in high esteem and thought to know the will of the Beloved say that those who loved the Beautiful did not love the Beloved but loved idols, yet in the Garden of the Beloved we are ever striving to create beauty for the pleasure of the Beloved.Ā  Were they then speaking the truth?ā€

The Lover answered, ā€œThose who said this had never glimpsed the form of the Beloved nor ever truly sought Him, for all beauty is but the reflection of the beauty of the Beloved, although seen very dimly as in a dark and faulty mirror, even as all goodness is a dim reflection of the goodness of the Beloved.Ā  So it is that those who love beauty and goodness recognize dimly in them the form of the Beloved and though often in ignorance those who are seeking the Beautiful and the Good are seeking after the Beloved.ā€
