O Lord,
remember not only the men and women of goodwill,
but also those of ill will.
But do not only remember the suffering they have inflicted on us,
remember the fruits we bought thanks to this suffering,
our comradeship, our loyalty, our humility,
the courage, the generosity,
the greatness of heart which has grown out of all this.
And when they come to judgment
let all the fruits that we have borne
be their forgiveness. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Written on a piece of wrapping paper near the body of a dead child in Ravensbruck

Good Morning Digital Neighbors. If you don't know about Ravensbruck it was the site of one of the concentrations camps during Word War Two. It was a camp that hosted women imprisoned by the Nazi. Terrible atrocities and all the horrors associated with the mindset of the National Socialist party and its zealots. Some links to follow - not for the faint of heart. If you do follow the links, reread that prayer after your rabbit holing. That people can come to adopt the mindset & hatred of the National Socialist should not surprise us, many can be lead into Groupthink and Herdfeel. Once people become uncritical of those they trust, they will engage in the absurd and the actually hateful. We are already full on with the absurd in our culture, and there are more and more cracks in the its ok the hate legions.

These are the same people that claim to feel more pain with you don't agree with them, don't accept their warped viewed of reality, sexuality, employment, language or identity, but have no problem seeing you cancelled, seeing you social isolated and happily imprisoned. Whatever it takes to make you silent. We all know death is the perma-fix, but they are happy with the gradual muting of your freedoms. One layer peeled away at a time. Their real game is to get you to the point where you no longer resist or your means to resist are so feeble that you can't.

Sobering stuff - not feel good as we head toward Christmas and all of its joys. But as the prayer reminds us that we can rise above our circumstances. I hope such prayers also make us more aware and prepared so they never happen again.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...

Meme of The Week Nominees

Happy National Best Friends Day Y'all!
I strongly suggest combining celebrations for this with National Name Your Poison Day and National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day. Think I'll have to wash a custard doughnut down with a cold beer later.
