Good Morning Digital Neighbors across the Local's-sphere! I would give you all my morning salutations, greetings and exhuberations, but you know them! Exhuberations may be a bit of a stretch, but it is sort of real word and could become one with usage. That is how language works after all, ain't it?
On this Saturday morning or later in the day, I hope life affords an opportunity to consider the treasures in your life. I hope all the treasures in in your life have DNA as part of their living reality and the other things remain pleasantries that make life more comfortable, enjoyable or enriched, but not treasures. When things become treasures we embark on a path of depersonalizing life and losing our rootedness in reality. Things are lifeless no matter how much we possess them and no matter how much the possess us. Treasure are alive and we have experiences and stories with them. My life and my mornings begin with a mindfulness of all the treasures that are part of my story. I am rich beyond measure. I hope you are too. Happy Saturday good neighbors!
Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).
Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV.
