Images & commentary for Holy Saturday

Good Morning Digital Neighbors! Holy & happy Saturday ADD Irregulars & WSN Curators, Contributors and Coconspirators! In Cath-O-Land it is a day of stillness, no celebrations or Sacraments unless you are on your death bed. In that case they may be administered to the Dying, but other than them, the rest of the Living are in a state of silent vigil and prayerful waiting.

Modern Disciples are in a state of prayerful waiting, the Apostles of the Master were in a state of loss and failure. The Master had failed, they had failed. It was as Bill Paxton said: "Game over man, Game over." What happens on Easter morning is the greatest surprise ever and it changes the Apostles from cowards on the run to fools being proud to suffer and die for a "Dead Man". Of course I don't think they are fools, but the world does. Fair enough, the world is passing away, so who of faith gives a crap about what the world thinks?

For Disciples of today celebrate this day as a day of anticipated victory. Christ is the ultimate Trojan Horse using the vehicle of death to undo the death brought into the world by Adam & Eve. Of course it easy to see that the Work of Christ is looking more like a failure these days. More and more choose to believe in nothing greater than themselves. Loosing an anchor of faith, religion or even spirituality - the unmoored will believe in anything and everything to their ruin and the ruin of their world.

The Master did not come to start a Members Only Club, but He did give us a community that is meant to be inclusive, not because all ideas are equal or all lifestyles are valid, but because there is a truth to be sought and lives to be changed. Conversion to the Gospel is the work of the Disciple and their work in the world. The bickering part of humanity sure makes that an imperfect reality and too often divisive.

I don't beat the bushes in the typical fashion of asking people if they subscribe to the "Da Jesus." I am greatly concerned about them meeting Him, sometimes for the first time when they thought they met Him a long time ago and found Him inadequate and lacking. Be a good neighbor, take sincere interest in your neighbor while at the same time being wary of just how dangerous humanity is. I wait for moments when people show interest, express curiosity and then when the door is open I do my best to share of my love of the Master, my gratitude for being a disciple, and how the faith is the superhighway for meaning, reality and truth. Enough babbling, love you all who managed to read through this. On to the some artwork, much of it the Harrowing of Hell and a few other images.

Voltaire's birthday 11-21-1694 - A brief essay by Steve Weidenkopf

Today marks the three hundred and thirtieth birthday of the Frenchman François-Marie Arouet, better known by his nom de plume, Voltaire (1694-1778).

Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
