Good Morning Digitial Neighbors! Well I have a month in the rear view mirror after today. It has been a good transition and I am very hopeful about the days, months and year to come in my time at Queen of Peace and Anthony of Padua. I miss Immaculate Heart and at times this change seems like a prolonged dream from which I will soon awake, but it is very real and the new people I have met are becoming a blessing like all the people I know and love at IHM.
It is strange to let go of a community you spent so much time shepherding and entrust it into the hands of another who will have different gifts, talents and priorities to share with that community. One of the real challenges of moving on, is to truly move on. The temptation is always one of wanting to look back and imagine how good the past was and wonder if the future will hold that much goodness. Born into a bourgeois family during the reign of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” (r. 1643-1715), Voltaire suffered tragedy at a young age when his mother died. Never close with his father or brother, Voltaire exhibited a rebellious attitude toward authority from his youth. His brilliant mind was fostered in the care of the Society of Jesus, who introduced him to the joys of literature and theater. Despite his later criticisms against the Church, Voltaire, throughout his life, fondly recalled his dedicated Jesuit teachers.
