Good morning Digital Neighbors!  S.H.I.T - Sure Happy It’s Thursday! I appreciated that little acronym much more than TGIF because most Thursdays needed a laugh to keep pushing on to Friday.  I am still happy it’s Thursday, but I don’t use that acronym much anymore.  On to something more serious!    More goodness from St. Irenaeus with some commentary at the end.  @Dr-Robot and I have had some interesting discussions about the resurrection while playing Dominion.

From the treatise Against Heresies by Saint Irenaeus, bishop
The eucharist, pledge of our resurrection

If our flesh is not saved, then the Lord has not redeemed us with his blood, the eucharistic chalice does not make us sharers in his blood, and the bread we break does not make us sharers in his body. There can be no blood without veins, flesh and the rest of the human substance, and this the Word of God actually became: it was with his own blood that he redeemed us. As the Apostle says: In him, through his blood, we have been redeemed, our sins have been forgiven.

We are his members and we are nourished by creation, which is his gift to us, for it is he who causes the sun to rise and the rain to fall. He declared that the chalice, which comes from his creation, was his blood, and he makes it the nourishment of our blood. He affirmed that the bread, which comes from his creation, was his body, and he makes it the nourishment of our body. When the chalice we mix and the bread we bake receive the word of God, the eucharistic elements become the body and blood of Christ, by which our bodies live and grow. How then can it be said that flesh belonging to the Lord’s own body and nourished by his body and blood is incapable of receiving God’s gift of eternal life? Saint Paul says in his letter to the Ephesians that we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones. He is not speaking of some spiritual and incorporeal kind of man, for spirits do not have flesh and bones. He is speaking of a real human body composed of flesh, sinews and bones, nourished by the chalice of Christ’s blood and receiving growth from the bread which is his body.

The slip of a vine planted in the ground bears fruit at the proper time. The grain of wheat falls into the ground and decays only to be raised up again and multiplied by the Spirit of God who sustains all things. The Wisdom of God places these things at the service of man and when they receive God’s word they become the eucharist, which is the body and blood of Christ. In the same way our bodies, which have been nourished by the eucharist, will be buried in the earth and will decay, but they will rise again at the appointed time, for the Word of God will raise them up to the glory of God the Father. Then the Father will clothe our mortal nature in immortality and freely endow our corruptible nature with incorruptibility, for God’s power is shown most perfectly in weakness.

Days of Joy - Do the difficult
Easter Reflections

Good morning, Digital Neighbors!   Happy Thursday my friends! The quote below has been on my office door since I became a pastor in 2004, but I first encountered Riat Snowden in the mid 90’s and always appreciated her prayers. Enjoy!

50 Days of Joy - Litany of Trust
Easter Reflections

Good morning Digital Neighbors!!  Happy Wednesday! A little later in the morning, I have been somewhat lazy in the mornings lately since I keep the house cooler at night.  I still wake up at 3, almost no matter what time I go to bed. On the nights I go to bed after 9, I can usually give myself about 5 minutes to fall asleep until 4.  By 4 I am up and at it for the day with my morning Office and a few other prayers in the rotation.  This has been a favorite since I first encountered it a few years ago.

Litany of Trust

From the belief that I have to earn Your love … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that I am unlovable … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the false security that I have what it takes … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear that trusting You will leave me more destitute … Deliver me, Jesus.

From all suspicion of Your words and promises … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the rebellion against childlike dependency on You … Deliver me, Jesus.

From refusals and reluctances in accepting Your will … Deliver me, Jesus.

From anxiety about the future … Deliver me, Jesus.

From resentment or excessive preoccupation with the past … Deliver me, Jesus.

From restless self-seeking in the present moment … Deliver me, Jesus.

From disbelief in Your love and presence … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being asked to give more than I have … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the belief that my life has no meaning or worth … Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of what love demands … Deliver me, Jesus.

From discouragement … Deliver me, Jesus.

That You are continually holding me, sustaining me, loving me … Jesus, I trust in you.

That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings, and transforms me …Jesus, I trust in you.

That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on You … Jesus, I trust in you.

That You are with me in my suffering … Jesus, I trust in you.

That my suffering, united to Your own, will bear fruit in this life and the next …Jesus, I trust in you.

That You will not leave me orphan, that You are present in Your Church…Jesus, I trust in you.

That Your plan is better than anything else … Jesus, I trust in you.

That You always hear me, and in Your goodness always respond to me …Jesus, I trust in you.

That You give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others …Jesus, I trust in you.

That You give me all the strength I need for what is asked …Jesus, I trust in you.

That my life is a gift … Jesus, I trust in you.

That You will teach me to trust You … Jesus, I trust in you.

That You are my Lord and my God … Jesus, I trust in you.

That I am Your beloved one … Jesus, I trust in you.

Amen.

One of the invitations of the rhythmic prayer of litanies is to contemplate the various ideas, concepts, or phrases that the litany proposes to you in prayer.  If is just said with the intention of getting it done it becomes as lifeless as the rest of our mindless activities and prayers.  We pray for deliverance from the ideas and habits that draw us away from God and for a deeper trust in those that do.  Have a great day my friends, know that I pray for all of you in general and quite often individually as I know of the events in your life.  God is good, ALL the time.

50 Days of Joy - Noisy head
Easter Reflections

Good morning Digital Neighbors!!  Happy Tuesday!   Another simple pray for Divine Guidance with some babbling to follow.

Divine Guidance

Be with me as I enter Your presence.

Give me the patience

and the stillness to hear Your voice.

Fill me with Your spirit,

and help me to understand

what You want me to know.

Quieten my noisy head to make room

for what You want me to hear.

Grant me the wisdom to do Your will—

this day and in the days to come.

Bring me a blessing today

and help me to recognize it when I see it.

—Phyllis K. Collier
