Good morning and Happy Thursday Digital Neighbors! While I generally don’t care for mice and the destruction that they bring to our lives, fieldmice are cute. Just stay out of the house and we can be friends. A cute photo and prayer from the mouse's perspective. Have a great Thursday my friends.
A Fieldmouse’s Prayer
Keep strong, O Lord, our aged maple,
Rock it for us like a cradle;
When the wind begins to howl,
Hide us from the midnight owl.
Keep us from the sight of bats;
Soothe us with the sounds of gnats.
Save us from the bright green snakes
That crawl here from the nearby lakes.
Send instead the songs of crickets
Who sing so loudly from the thickets;
Bless for us the fireflies,
That wink at us like God’s own eyes.
Save us from the floods of rain—
Protect our little store of grain.
Keep it from the warring ants
Who scorn the grasshopper’s lifelong dance;
Guard us from the night’s black yawn,
Keep us safely till the dawn—
And in the golden light of day
Bring a better world our way.

Although he spent time as a civil servant in the French embassy to the Hague, Voltaire’s main love was writing—an endeavor where he excelled in various genres, including poetry, which led to his appointment as the royal court poet for King Louis XV. Widely recognized as one of the greatest French writers, and even hyperbolically referred to by ...
